About Me - DJDevZ
About: DJDevZ A-LeX Krishan A-Pe
16/8/06I'm 16, male, and I'm going college in September. I've hardly ever had keyboard lessons, but I taught myself most of it, with help from some harmonium lessons I had when I was younger. Music is my life, I can't go through a day without some sort of music as I have to listen to music. Nowadays, it seems easier to make it in the music industry, thanks to technology in music software and keyboards.
Normally, I would try and play tunes that I hear from the TV, or songs that were out that week, on my keyboard. However, it was only when my friends Alex and Krishan told me they were making a track, that I suddenly became interested in the music industry.
I was just making beats on the school keyboard at first, trying to make something good and professional was hard on the keyboard, but it was still experience. Then I heard my relative had bought music software which he didn't want, and I managed to persuade him to give it me. This is when I really progressed in music.
By cutting out bits of songs, and recording in sounds from my keyboard to my computer, I was able to build up a small sound library. There are mainly drum beats and other percussion instruments in my library, because that's what my keyboard lacks the most. Plus, it's more difficult to extract the tune from a song, because it's rarely by itself.
By using my sound library to make the beat, and my keyboard to make the tune, I was able to produce a relatively professional sounding song. However, we found out something which made everything easier - there was a recording studio nearby. So one day when I randomnly made a song in my music lesson*, we all decided to make that track in the recording studio.
When we went there one afternoon, we first asked if it was free, as that's the most important thing. Then, when realising that it was, went upstairs to the studio. Amazed is how I felt, looking at the equipment they had, which was off the scale compared to what I had. They had 3 monitors with the facility of moving from one screen to the other, a huge sound library, MIDI keyboard, synths and one man to control it all - his name was Ian.
After 3 hours of re-making the song, but using their equipment, it was finally done, and it sounded excellent. We couldn't wait to rap on it, because we even had all the lyrics ready. 2 hours later, and they said we can record it now. I did my part first, as I had to leave soon after. The mic looked great, it reminded me of the same microphones that professional artists use. I rapped my part, and I went home, not knowing what happened to the rest of the song. . .
. . . The next day I heard what we'd done so far, and it was some wicked 'Muzik'! You could definitely tell that Alex was the MC and I was the DJ. Have a listen yourself on the Tracks Page, it's called Yeah Yeah.
*I don't recommend not doing what you're told in any of your school lessons.
